Rezoning Application - Zoning map amendments are referred to the Planning Board for recommendation and report to the Board of Commissioners who decide upon the request in a public hearing. All rezoning requests must be consistent with long-term plans of the Town. The application for a rezoning request must be submitted at least 21 days prior to the planning board meeting at which it will be heard.
Sign Permit Application – In order to erect a sign within the Town limits of the Town of Woodfin you must first obtain a valid sign permit. There are a variety of rules that govern sign height and size depending upon the zoning district of the property in question. Additionally, there are limits on the number and types of signs allowed on property within the Town limits. Failure to obtain a valid sign permit can result in fines and the removal of the unpermitted signage.
Special Use Permit Application – Special use permits are issued by the Board of Adjustment through an evidentiary hearing when appropriate conditions are met. Standards applicable to all uses listed as special use can be found here. Additional standards specific to individual uses can be found here. All applications for a special use permit must be submitted at least 21 days prior to the board of adjustment meeting in which the hearing takes place.
Street Cut Permit In the event that you need to alter traffic, impede the flow of traffic, and/or cut into any municipal street or sidewalk or the easement you must first obtain a Street Cut Permit from the Town of Woodfin. Failure to obtain a permit prior to excavation or associated activity will result in a fine of $500.00 per day. Excavation without a permit that results in damage to municipal infrastructure may also result in criminal charges.
Variance Application - The Board of Adjustment may grant a variance when unnecessary hardships would result from carrying out the strict letter of the zoning regulations. The standards that must be met for granting of a variance can be found here. All applications for a variance must be submitted at least 21 days prior to the board of adjustment meeting in which the hearing takes place.
Zoning Compliance Permit Application – this application is required for the establishment of any building or structure within the Town of Woodfin or any modifications to an existing building that significantly modifies its use or the building's “footprint,” this also include any short term rental permit requests.
